What's the model # of the Denon AVR? Is ARC enabled on both the Denon and the TV?
Denon AVR-S540BT.What's the model # of the Denon AVR? Is ARC enabled on both the Denon and the TV?
I dont see anything on the screen labeled ARC.Denon AVR-S540BT.
Hi, please bear with me. Ok, HDMI from laptop to CABLE/SAT on Denon. Then, there's another HDMI going from HDMI OUT (DENON) to ARC 1 ON BACK OF TV. For me to use laptop, using TV remote i see HDMI 1,2,3. When I select HDMI 1, the sound comes out of my surround sound speakers of the Denon. Using the Denon remote and the TV remote i dont see anything listed as ARC. I tried using HDMI 2 & 3, but it states there's no connection. When I click on a TV app on the TV, the sound plays through the TV speakers."When I'm watching tv," or "watching my smart TV" ???
I'm guessing you are using the ARC port on the Denon? HDMI Output 1, then when watching an app that is running on the TV, the TV should have an ARC setting you turn on and that will use the TVs ARC port to the Denons HDMI 1 ARC port. You also have to set the Denon to "TV Audio".

This is so damn confusing. Im ready to drop an anvil on the whole mess. I turned the hdmi tv audio on, nothing. Reading the manual hasn't helped me. This is ********.Check page 79 of the denon manual.
What kind of tv? Does it even have ARC? The HDMI port on the Denon and the tv will be listed as ARC capable in the manual as well at the port. You need to connect the two ports directly as shown on page 79 of the Denon manual. It could also be a CEC issue. On older systems ARC/CEC are on the same chipset so you have to either both on or both off, and if there is a CEC incompatibility, that could affect ARC.This is so damn confusing. As far as we know (so far).... it's probable. Then, there's another HDMI going from HDMI OUT (DENON) to ARC 1 ON BACK OF TV.
Ok, under Denon video, ARC is on. Still only TV speakers are audible.ARC defaults to "off" on the receiver (as described in the manual). Did you change it to "on"?
Sometimes it can be confusing between reading and understanding a manual.![]()
So... audio works as expected. Video is on the TV.I watch TV through my laptop. I have an HDMI cable from laptop to the Cable/sat HDMI on my Denon Receiver.
Then I have HDMI Out (from the Denon) to the Arc 1 on the tv.
"Watching TV" means you're using the laptop as the source for "TV".When I'm watching tv, the sound is put out by my surround speakers, which is good.
Now.... if you use the Smart Apps in/from the TV to the AVR, you have issues with audio. If I'm watching my smart TV, then the sound is coming through my tv and not through the surround speakers. Any help to get the tv sound to come from the surround speakers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I'll get that info to you tonight when I get home.Let's try to get on the same level.

All good. Correct?

Correct?
If yes: Check the audio/HDMI settings in the TV (and perhaps the Smart Apps).
Also, do you get "no sound" from the AVR at all or is it just that only the "surround speakers" in the AVR which aren't producing sound as anticipated?
And... please provide the make/model of your TV.![]()
