HDMI connects to some devices, and not to others

I have a frustrating problem with my HDMI connections that seems rather illogical. Some of my devices will connect to my TV ok, and some won't.

DisplayA: cheap old LCD TV branded "Andersson".
DisplayB: cheap old LCD TV (sligtly larger) branded "Finlux". I guess it's actually the same brand as Andersson, the hardware and menus etc are identical.

LaptopA: Sony Vaio
LaptopB: Asus
HTPC: Asus Eeebox
RaspberryPiA
RaspberryPiB

With displayA:
Laptop A and HTPC never had any problems, connects fine.
LaptopB and the RPis used to connect fine, but ceased to do so. The strange thing is that i bought a new RPi when the first (as I thought) stopped working, but the new one behaved like the old one. Not able to connect.

With displayB:
Exactly the same as for displayA. This TV has 2 HDMI inputs and it doesn’t matter which I use.

I’ve checked the Raspberries against other displays and then it works fine. I suppose the “faulty” laptop will work as well, although I haven’t tried.

Tried two different HDMI cables. Unplugged the devices from the mains, connected them, and then powered up again. No success.

I haven’t got a clue what to try next. It’s so strange that it used to work fine, but then stopped.

Lots of reasons why your Source to Display may not be working via HDMI.

Laptop A - try installing Monitor Asset Manager, https://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

Laptop A > Display A - use MAM to read what info the TV is Outputting on its HDMI ports, that way you will know what the 'supported' resolution and refresh rates of the Display are and hopefully then allow you to force your Source into a supported mode.

My Laptop A is a Linux, so MAM won't work there. Looked for any alternatives (quite sure there are some) but no luck. However, I had a testing session again with LaptopB (the faulty). That is a Win10, so I installed MAM and connected the HDMI. It's so weird, because on the laptop everything looks as it works. The connection sound is heard, the screen flickers a little when clone screen is used (tried with extended screen and display 2 solo as well), MAM and Windows register a second display. But the display shows nothing. Tried two different cables, different resolutions (I am able to set it in Windows). No luck.

I'm beginning to suspect that the HDMI port on laptopB is broken. Some pins work, some don't. Or something like that.

The Display does report 'DDC/CI - not supprted' - is there an option in the Display setup menu to enable DDC?

No, I'm afraid not. The settings on the tv are on a very basic level. Perhaps it's a hot-plugging issue. I'll test one more time this weekend with the HDMI connected from absolute startup.
