Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

I have a HP Pavilion Dv7 laptop hooked up to my HDTV via HDMI.

With the lid of the laptop open the output resolution to the TV is 1080p when I close the lid the resolution on the TV goes to 720p. Open 1080p, closed 720p.

I looked at the settings on my laptop under 'what happens when lid is closed' but it just relates to power off, sleep, etc.

Any ideas what is going on?

It's a bit of a pain to leave the lid open while watching a movie on the TV so I can get 1080p.

thanks

How do you have the monitor sharing setup? Do you have it set to mirror the laptop screen on the TV? You should be able to find that setting in the vid driver.

Do you have the Intel or Radeon graphics?

I have the radeon I think HD 4???

I will check the mirroring.

Why would closing the lid change the resolution?

thanks

because if it's setup in mirroring the same resolution is used on both, your lcd on the laptop might be setup to 1920x1080 or something close....once you close the lid the resolution switches to the tv which was never adjusted and that could be something like 1280x1024 or 1024x768 and in result you get 720p

The laptop resolution is 1600x900

And I think the TV's resolution is 1920x1080.

So the adjust is made on the laptop?

Monitor 1 1600x900 and monitor 2 1920x1080

is that right?

I think so, I don't remember if monitor 1 and 2 can be swapped making your tv the primary one in which case the resolutions would be reversed.

Have you tried closing the lid?

OK, thanks everyone...fixed

It shows 1080p both when the lid is open and when the lid (screen goes off) is closed.

Reversed the LCD(computer) and the TV.

TV first (primary), LCD second.

TV 1920x1080 and LCD 1600x900

thanks again
