I am new to projection and need some help. Wondering if anybody has experienced these issues using Hdmi links between their pj and avr. I am using an epson 6030 and have had the screen go black during a movie and during cable. With the movie it lasted about 10 seconds, but the audio was playing, just no picture, and then the pic came back . Went back over same scene and no problem. Sometimes after the screen blacks out, if I hit the input button for the pj it saya hdmi, no signal, but the audio is playing and 3 times the pj power off on both the remote and on the unit would not power it down - had to unplug power cord from pj.

My dealer says these can all be caused by hdmi issues, even the freezing of the power controls.

What is your opinion?

If you are using a cable longer than the HDMI Max spec (25' I believe) there is the potential for this to happen.

Redmere cables have chips built into the ends that allow them to work at much longer lengths with NO issues and they are only slightly more expensive than a passive cable that is made with fatter wires to try and prevent drop outs. I have 2 of these 30 and 40 feet and they work flawlessly. They are directional, so you have to put them in properly with the signal end at the AVR and the display end at the projector or it will not work at all.

Hope that help

Make sure you pay attention to the description of the cable and get the ones with the proper sized ends for you use. I used the • RedMere - Ultra Slim Series High Performance HDMI® Cables..

Please note that standard trouble shooting should be done first.. ie. Remove the avr from the chain, remove the long cable from the chain.. etc to determine the issue is not being caused by something else.

Correct and it sounds like a classic HDMI cable issue. Please describe your signal chain and list what cables are being used.

Mike, I have the signal going from bluray to yamaha RX A 730 avr through an inexpensive HDMI cable and then to pj over a Tributaries high speed in-wall 20 ft hdmi cable , 24g

You are the second guy in the last week that has reported this same problem, using a Tributaries high speed HDMI cable. I am not familiar with that cable, other than think the cost is ridiculous. May not have anything to do with the cable, but thought it strange. Have you tried going direct from BD player to projector using a couple different cables to see if that works. Have to start with the minimum in the chain and then add one item at a time, until you find what is causing the problem.

Mike, was this with an Epson or some other pj?

Mike, it wasn't the cable, but the epson hdmi inputs-was watching Olympics for about 30 mins, changed the channel, blank screen. Ran diff hdmi cables directly from cable box, still no pic and then from bluray, no pic.

Hooked up component cable and immediately pic was back. Tried hdmi2 on epson and wouldn't work. Looks as though it is the hdmi board.

Really disappointed in the epson, because I also have a stuck pixel. Poor QC for a $3600 pj, hoping the replacement works and lasts longer than 2 months.
