I went on a trip and thought that bringing my HDMI cable for the "HDMI Out" port on the Canon Vixia HSF10 camcorder would work. I need to transfer the video onto my laptop which also has an HDMI port.

But when I plug it in to the computer nothing happens. I at least expected to see an option to view the file system but its not happening.

Is there a way to do this? I know plugging it directly into a television works fine. I can record or play and both show up on the TV .... but how with a laptop?

Thanks

if the videos are on and sd card you can just take it out of the camera and put it in your pc then just copy the files.

If they are on the internal memory or sd card you can use an ysb cable to trasnfer them to the pc.

Yeah... the HDMI is for video display, not data. And the HDMI port on your laptop is also an output. Not to put too fine a point on it, but what you tried is basically the equivalent of hooking up an iPod headphone cable to your laptop's speaker output and trying to transfer MP3s.
