So I bought the HDMI to ethernet wallplates from monoprice. Two HDMI wallplates with 2 ethernet cables running between them. When hooked up, it worked fine with my laptop. However when I tried routing the output from my Onkyo TX-SR674 receiver I got no video and the audio even stopped playing at the source. I tried both A/V from my Directv box and my xbox (through the reciever) and neither produces video or audio at the second display. Any idea what is happening or why?

Update:

When I connect my PS3 directly to the wall, it works fine.

When I connect my DirecTV HR-20 directly to the wall, not only does it not work, but the light on the output doesn't even come on (The light on the output is on when it doesnt work with the receiver.

When I use the PS3 input through the receiver, it doesn't work.

If you can, check your terminations on your cable, that is where I would start. Been there done that.

HDMI over ethernet is hit and miss. Be careful with the HR20, I fried the HDMI port on my HR20 using the converter from FireFold. Apparently this is common with the HR20. You might confirm someone on here has successfully use your monoprice converter with the HR20.h

The cables are fine, I tested those before I even installed the converter. I read under the customer reviews on monoprice that someone else had trouble with an onkyo receiver as well. I'm gonna put in a powered splitter after the receiver, so lets hope that helps.

how many feet are your ethernet cables? I am using 100ft cat5 cables and if I dont use a powered splitter (e.g. monoprice 5068) I have really bad results. Once I plug in the spllter everything works well. The red lights on your wall plates should be VERY bright (i had to put a piece of painters tape over mine).

Are powered HDMI splitters expensive? Where do you get them?

I also have the problem driving a SIIG wallplate balun with cat6 x2 x50ft from my VSX-1016. Its HDMI switched output is not amplified.

The DISH or BD drive the wallplate directly just fine.

Wondering if the VSX1019 or VSX21 Elite outputs would drive the wallplate?

thanks

Now that my wires are pulled, it looks like I can trim about 12', so the cat6 run will be 38'. I'll see if that works, if not, I'll add a splitter or upgrade to VSX-21. Pioneer has added lots of features in the 3 yrs since I bought the VSX-1016.

The benefit of Ethernet versus regular HDMI very easy to custom fit and the same cable will work with a powered solution if necessary. Plus even cat6 is very cheap in comparisson. If I had a lot to do I can get 1000' of plenum locally for about $90.

What kind of bad resualts? I am having sync issues at 50ft cat6 UTP with 1080p but fine at 1080i. Only guess what will not work at 1080p/24.

I have the monoprice hdmi wall plates as well. If I use shorter cables then 1080p comes up. 50tf is the shortest route I can go.

Re: my post #10 above.

Through my VSX1016, I could only drive 480p successfully.

I have ordered a Denon AVR-1910 for that and other reasons. I'll chime back in when I try it out.

I have a 91txh which worked great when i tested at 25ft with the same type of cat6. As soon as I ran and installed my 50tf cat6 i can't get 1080p. Its been frustrationg ever since my last 50ft hdmi cable broke, and decided to switch to cat6 instead. What is teh recommandation for HDMI baluns at 50ft?
