I have a HP laptop with HDMI hookup. I can hookup my TY (with the HDMI) and I do get fine resolution and picture. I also get sound (setting to digital output in Nvidia) through the HDMI BUT... the sound only comes out of the TV (and is not too good). Is there a way anyone knows regarding how to get output to the 5.1 system? Is there another hookup I should consider doing from the PC to the Denen reciever? Appreciate any help!

If your receiver has HDMI inputs and outputs you could connect the laptop to the receiver and the receiver to the TV so the receiver can intercept the audio and send the video to the TV. However this could cause you HDCP issues known as the repeater bug.

repeater bug is fixed already, so connect your pc to receiver and receiver to tv and everything should work fine

No HDMI on the Denon AVR-3805. May use s-video?

Unless I am missing something in your post, it is simple. HDMI to TV. Turn off/disable sound on the TV. SPDIF or optical to your Denon. Set a sound volume on the Denon and control sound volume with your mediaplayer application.
