Ive compared the difference....I didnt really notice a difference, but its known that only component can pass BTB on the A1. That said, I do not really see any bad crushing on blacks via HDMI for HD or SD.
One bad thing about component, it doesnt pillar box 4:3 material like HDMI does.
All in all, HDMI has a couple minor issues (clipping and BTB issue), but in my opinion, still looks damn good for SD and HD. I didnt notice a difference over component so I am continuing to run HDMI to my Sammy DLP set.
Hopefully these minor flaws will be corrected via firmware updates. If they could fix these issues, the hdmi dropout issues (some people are experiencing) and the slow load times, the player would be rated ALOT better.
Fortunately, with the port on the back, it seems like firmware updates will be a breeze. It also shows that they probably do plan to do firmware updates with this addition.
Also, forgot to mention, their is no upconversion for some sd material via component. A dialog box pops up and tells you that its not converted to 1080i.
