Hdmi - ?

so i've been having this argument with a buddy of mine.

difference between a $30 Generic HDMI cable and a $100+ HDMI cable (AR, Monster, Audioquest, etc) my argument as far as HDMI cable goes - as that they are both digital cables - you have a signal resulting in a picture or you don't. that simple. it's binary 1's and 0's. his argument is that the luxory cable has better conductors, insulators, and better ends resulting in a better handshake giving a better picture in comparision. can someone please help me win this argument.

thanks

o yea as far as component or composite cables goes - i would pretty much agree. how much of a difference is argumentative but i would assume anybody with some sort of background in the a/v industry should probably see the difference but an average guy probably not.

thanks again

get your friend to pull apart speakers - have a look at the crap insulated, thin guage copper wiring, even on many of the good ones, and then ask him if the $1000 a meter audioquest cable is justified. The same applies to worrying about video interconnects

The quality of the picture you see is dependent on 3 main things

1. The quality of the transfer of the DVD

2. The quality of the DVD player decoding the transfer

3. How good your projector/ TV is

cables are a 10th order issue and benefits are usually placebo in nature

As long as the 0's and 1's get from point A to point B, the handshake and PQ will always be the same, there's nothing to argue about.
I am having problems getting the HDMI connection to work with Motorola 6416 cable box and Sony 34XBR960N. I have tried different cables and boxes with no help. I had Sony tech come out with test DVD player that has HDMI connector and it would not work with my HDMI. He is telling me that they have had problems with aftermarket HDMI cables and that I need to buy a Sony HDMI cable. SO now I am going to the SOny store to get one so they cant use that as an excuse. It would be great if it was the cable but I doubt it.

Sony is probably lying to you. I had a sony vaio computer go down and the Sony reps from the website chat support, the phone center, AND service depot lied throuhg their teeth. The company I bought the HD new HD for the laptop from told me that they were lying and helped me install the HD w/o having to pay Sony $220 to do it for me. Thank God.
