Hi, I dont really have any technical experience in this field so my question may seem very elementary.

I am installing a new HDTV antenna on my roof to receive local channels over the air. I ran the co-ax from the antenna on the roof to the existing cable co-ax in my attic then I connected the power amplifier to the co-ax on the wall then to the TV. I'm not getting any signal at all. Should I have but the amplifier in the attic or am I missing something else?

Just to experiment I put one of those cheap flat antennas up in my attic and though it only got a few channels it did send a signal to the TV.

Any help is appreciated.

P.S.
before I installed the antenna on the roof I plugged it straight into the TV from the amplifier and left it in the front yard (cord through the window) and I got most channels.
