Does anyone know how to combine DVD and HDTV receiver optical audio outputs into a single Home Theater receiver optical input?

Is there some type of splitter for optical cables out there?

I'd prefer to not swap cables between DVD and HDTV receiver to achieve Dolby Digital.

Thanks in advance.

Or if by chance your receiver has an unused coaxial input you can buy an optical to coaxial converter for about $35.00

Thanks to all!

I like the manual switch option because I should be able to implement it for about $70 (a switch and two extra cables).

I can't vouch for this because I haven't actually tried it, but I think Radio Shack lists an optical splitter in their new catalog. It might be possible to use one of these in reverse to combine two signals into one input if you only have one of the signals active at a time so they dont interfere with each other. It might be worth a (cheap) try.

Great idea. I found it on their web site (Cat.#: 15-1585). I will give it a try.

Would you mind posting your results. If this works for you I would like to try it as well. I have the same problem.

Thanks

The optical splitter option did not work for me.

The symptom was that I couldn't get any DVD sound no matter how I configured my Denon AVR-1601 receiver. I did get Dolby TV sound.

Next, I will try the manual switch option.

If your DVD player has a digital coaxial output and your stereo receiver has the same input, you can connect it that way. This connection is just as good as an optical connection.

Thanks, Benji!

Your suggestion is an even better (less $) option that will work for me.
