While visiting a friend on Superbowl Sunday, and his new HDTV install, we came upon the discussion of connections. I searched the forums and didn't find much, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me - in general - is there a visible difference between an DVI connection and a component connection? If so, how much greater - in terms of a percentage - is it better?


Further, we noticed when watching the super bowl on the HDTV set downstairs that it was three to four seconds behind the SDTV signal upstairs - both being pulled from the same cable connection. Obviously there is more info that needs to be processed with HDTV, but is this the reason for the delay? Would going to an all digital DVI connection from his cable box to his TV remove that delay?

The delay is likely in the broadcast- not the recieving end.


DVI can give better quality with fixed-pixel displays. Its a pure digital transmission and no conversion- you are likely to see a better picture. Hard to quantify in %.
