HDTV from Dish ........ Can I only order HDTV programming nothing else ????

909 Views 17 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  RJS
I don't want top 50, nor top 100 or 150 channels . I only want to subscribe to HBO for HBO HDTV, Showtime for ShowHDTV and discovery HT theater . Can I buy my own equipment, make my own installation and only subscribe to those 3 HDTV and future HDTV channels without getting charged for basic Dish channels ???

You can however Dish will charge you an additional $5 per month for not having one of there base packages.
ok , I can live with that .. Otherwise I would have to pay $25 for top 50. I would rather use the $20 which I save by not going with top 50, and use it toward HDTV programming ..

Also I found this website that sells 6022u for $299 + $49 prepay for programming .. Is this for REAL ??????? or do I have to sign with dish for 12 months or so ... this looks little too good to be real ...

Here is the site with the deals

Thanks for your help !!!

I just bought the 6000 from them. I had to agree to get the Top 50 package for one year.
$24.99 * 12= $299.88. If you can find a 6000 for less than $599 you win by not agreeing to a 12 month commitment.

Does Directv have the same or a similar deal?
a year ago I got the 6000 from allsat for a similar price (maybe $399), I installed it myself, and my only commitment was to sign up as a customer. I signed up for only CBS-HD (total $6.50 per month, including the $5 for the access fee). I later signed up for Discovery, and also have access to PPV although I have never used that.
Can I buy the 6022U from them if I already have Dish 150 service?

DirecTV has no deal just to get the HDTv programming and worse yet the cheapest one is 30 or 35 bucks (dont know since I only have HBO but dont ask you cant get it anymore)
well I will buy this 6022u from them soon, but Im not signing up for top 50 . I will only take HDTV channels, I don't see ANY reasons why wouldn't they allow me to do this . I will still pay them close to $40 especially after HD-ESPN come out.... If they want business from me they better let me do it ..!!

I asked about this. They insisted that I have to take the Top 50 package even though I was willing to spend more for the individual HD channels
All i have are the HD channels. They charge a $5 access fee. That's it.
ehh, if they won't let me do it HDTV only then forget them. My friend is selling his 6000 for $400 still used , but I don't have to waste $ on Top 50 .. But still they want to get as many NEW customers as possible, so I will tell them its either my way or no way. If they want $ from me they better go my way .. Will keep you posted if Im successful

Did you need two dishes to get both CBS-HD and DiscoveryHD?
what is the cost for just the HD channels with dish? And what are the channels. It sounds interesting.
ehh I just received reply from this website that sell those receivers for $299 . According to them I have to sign up for 1 year and sign up for top 50 in order to buy 6000 for $299, otherwise its $475 . However they are such MORONS , even though I clearly stated that I have NEVER been a Dish Network customer before, every time they said I am NOT qualified for $299, and on their site its says $299 for NEW customers only . I emailed them 2nd time with correction yet they still told me the same way $475 . Im CLEARLY dealing with stupid people here .... Ehhhhhh Dish Network is NOT getting my business ..... Why would I buy HDTV receiver to watch standard programming .

Anyways, I have seen Dish Network commercial on TV in which they say Dish has Superior Digital Signal, yet every Dish setup that I have seen has CRAPPY quality , its like watching Divix with layers in the shadows clearly visible ..... Yeh SUPERIOR to what ? TV from 1978 ?
"Did you need two dishes to get both CBS-HD and DiscoveryHD?"

Not now. I have a Dish 500 pointed at 61.5 and get CBS and Discovery. I dont know how this will change as HD migrates to the other satellite.
