Quick Question. I have a Sony 32xbr400 TV. If I add a HDTV decoder box will I notice any better picture quality from using regular cable? Thanks for the help.

It's possible, but not likely. The Sony can double incoming analog transmissions to 960i, and the HDTV STB can usually scale incoming analog transmissions to 1080i. But remember that the HDTV box will be outputting 16:9 at 1080i. So the Sony will end up squeezing it and you'll have the picture box effect.

Most HDTV boxes that can output 4:3 properly are outputting either 540p or 480p (or 480i) when they output 4:3. So then there's no real advantage.

If I understand the question correctly;

If he add's either a) a satellite HDTV decoder

or

b) a cable HDTV decoder (if suppllied by your city

cable provider)

will he get better picture quality than std analog channels from his cable

co.

The answer is yes, & even if his cable provider doesn't supply HDTV ch.

in his city, the optionnal digital decoder (like "Scientific Atlanta")

will give him a better picture than analog channels selected by the "WEGA"
