I tired of my Dish Network 6000 HDTV top-box.

It is to dependent on the satellite signal.

And I want to be "Independent"

My local signals supplies all the HDTV signals I need right now.

Help:

I need advice, on the new HDTV top-boxes in the market.

Please post yours recommendations, and pros, cons if you have any experience.

My display is a 50" Pioneer Plasma, with RGB, Component and S-Video inputs.

The Samsung is OTA only, and generally recommended.

For both OTA & DirecTV (the DirecTV stb's do not require using a dish to work for OTA) you have a few choices:

The Hughes/Toshiba/Phillips/Mitsu clone is Ok.

The RCA DTC-100 is Ok.

The other options are discontinued, but check topics on the Zenith, Sony & Panasonic, of these the Zenith is a better choice in most cases. You'll need to do some research before knowing which one is the best for you.

Samsung is reportedly coming out with a new OTA only STB next month that will have firewire to hook up to a HD VCR.
