Kinda embarassed asking this question but I'm in the process of buying an HDTV and my knowledge is limited when it comes to them. This is a newbie question but can someone please explain to me the difference between a HDTV that is HD-Ready and one has a HDTV tuner. Is there a difference, same thing or just a marketing ploy? The saleperson at my local Bestbuy didn't know the difference and was cluesless as I was. I'm thinking about purchasing the Samsung TXR3079WH model or the Sony KV30HS420 model. Something within a $1000.00 price range.

Ready means it doesn't have a HDTV tuner built in, which is only good for off the air broadcasts anyway usually unless it also takes a cable card. Don't get anything without HDMI input no matter what. Firewire is nice too.

(technically you should be asking in the RPTV forum or direct view forum)
