1080i is not progressive and 480p is not an HD signal. I don't think I'd be happy with a product whose literature says they are.

So you think this is a fluke?

I believe there has been some discussion of this scaler in the Video Processors forum (which is the right place to be discussing this anyway.) Might want to perform some searches there.

Some cliches come to mind. Garbage in, garbage out. You can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Analog to digital conversion includes some loss.

Analog sources are disappearing anyway. I'd rather put my $600 in digital equipment when HD DVRs come out than try to make my VCR look better and be disappointed in the result. Right now I prefer watching 480i original material in its native mode than having my E86 upconvert it and that's a digital signal.

Raven,

Your Toshiba 34HF81 TV already has a built-in converter that upconverts 480i to 540p - and is about as good as you can make NTSC look on that TV.
