So currently there is an old antenna that we never really used because we never had a TV, the antenna isn't digital either. Now I'm trying to figure out who makes a decent 12v TV about 22"-24" and how to upgrade the antenna on the trailer. The antenna we have now is direction and rotational and folds out when you crank a knob.


Suggestions? I want a decent TV but nothing crazy fancy because we will only be using it for a few weeks every year. Are RV specific antennas a decent way to go?

The antenna should be fine. There's no such thing as a "digital" antenna.

I understand what your saying but a Digital antenna is one optimized for the new digital frequencies (I understand the antenna itself is not digital lol). I replaced the old giant UHF/VHF on my house cause it sucked at picking up UHF frequencies. I have a feeling the one on the trailer will act the same way but I suppose I could try it out first.

No... RF is RF.

There is no antenna "optimized" for digital reception.

Ratman is correct. A "digital" antenna is only optimized for making a profit for its marketers. Electromagnetic radiation is still electromagnetic radiation. There's aren't any "new digital frequencies." DTV (digital television) stations occupy the same frequencies analog television used. So, the same antennas that received those frequencies before, still will.


The best deal in antennas, these days, often comes from a garage sale. Heck, I've visited vacated businesses where the property landlord let me have very nice antennas for free if I'd just remove the "ugly contraptions" from the roof.

Well that hasen't been my experience. My Experience is that my older and much larger combo antenna was optimized for VHF, and have trouble pulling in many UHF stations. Since most analog stations were previously VHF.

In the 50's, yeah primarily VHF. From the 60's till now, VHF/UHF antennas. The one that worked with analog, will still work with digital.


Try your existing antenna... if it works, great. If it doesn't get a new one.
