I know that I would give up Pay Per View and channel guide.

Would I be able to access all the same channels as if I had a cable box?

Would I be forced to use a coaxial cable instead of HDMI cable or is there some type of converter I could use?

Cox is telling me that I need a TIVO box in order to use the cable card. Would I need to subscribe to TIVO if I use the box exclusively for the cable card?

How do I know if the HDTV has a cable card slot?  I am looking at the specifications for some high end Samsung HDTVs and there is not any mention of a cable card slot.

Is there any cable box I can buy instead of rent every month from Cox?

Unless you have an older set, like from 2004-2009, Cable Cards are just for boxes and tuners these days. With Tivo, you buy the box - I believe they have three models of their newer Roamio - and then choose to pay either a monthly fee for the service or a one-off lifetime service payment. I've only had a Moxi, which was discontinued a few years ago, but Tivo probably works much the same with a nice software setup and channel guide.

I had cable cards for a 32" Sharp, 26" and 50" Sony sets. I went back to the box after eventually missing the record feature that a DVR offers. Also had an old single tuner Sony DVR for a while that used one.
