i just got back from saturday's HE2007 in NY. It was great fun, registration was a pain though as you had to line up in that small hallway. It was just terrible.

there were 5 floors dedicated for the show..14,15,16th as well as the conference and ballroom floor.

there were lots of room and i didnt have enough time to go through them all, but some of the rooms i liked were the following

dynaudio / moon audio - obe of my favourites..running dyns confidence bookshelves

joseph audio, cardas room - they ran some apple lossless through 1 set of josheph audio bookshelfs running a bel canto dac/pre-amp, then another set of speakers (florrstanders) cd through bel canto gear

dcm - tfe 200? floorstanders surprisingly good for the price..it was a good tonal balance overall (they were running all jolida gear though) It was the biggest surprise for me during the day.

proclaim audio - the ones with 3 spherical enclosures and external x-over, cost 26K though...ouch..

lipinsky - very nice balance...one of my favourites as well... guy there had a demo disc of an italian guy singing..was pretty good. the jvc video on ps3 was very nice too :)

audioengine - nice ipod speakers

haniwa audio - horn loaded huge speakers...i thought they would be bright but notatall...

cabasse - loud stuff...two giant eyeballs in the room

mark & daniel - some small marble? speakers...nice sound for a small room

some that i was expecting to be good but didnt impress me as much were

kef reference - tad bit on the highs - not very balanced

usher audio - they had 2 rooms but i wasnt impressed at any of them...

tad - they had the same material for the highs as the ushers...maybe i didnt stay long enough in the room

epos

gamut

hyperion

there was a lot of high end stuff there too ..that frankly i dont really know whats going on...they were going for huge amounts of dough but i really wasnt that moved over..ill not mention them here as there were a few....

i wish they had longer hours...one floor i went to was the ballroom..i went there at around 5pm and the exhibotors were already packed and ready to leave.it was apparently a conflict on booking the room so they had to leave early...

I wasn't really impressed by the epos either, did you have a chance to audition the Wilson's I really liked them.

I was at the show on Friday and really enjoyed it.

The highlights for me were:

The MBL speakers. Probably the best sounds I heard all day. The closest to actually fooling me that musicians were in the room. And for that kind of money, they should I guess.

The Omega Super 3 XRS speakers. These were small, and I mean really small, floorstanding, single driver speakers. I was completely surprised by how good they sounded and how low they could go considering their size. And they are under a grand for the pair. Their small size means you could use one as a center channel standing directly under a wall mounted plasma. Could be an interesting setup.

The ZU audio Druids. These are great looking speakers with very, very nice sound. I listened for a long time in that room.

The Cabasse audio huge eyeball speakers. Big, big sound. Futuristic, Lost in Space look.

The Aperion Audio room. I heard the 533t's in stereo and in a 5.1 setup. For the money, I thought they sounded great and looked tremendous.

Those were the rooms that stuck out for me.

I also participated in the amplifier workshop where you were able to switch back and forth between a tube amp and a solid state amp. It was blind and level matched. One was a blue light, one was a red. After switching back and forth, I didn't think I could hear any real difference. I correctly guessed the tube amp--but that's because I had a 50/50 shot.

What was more interesting was when they demonstrated tube amps and solid state amps clipping--what it sounds like and when it starts to happen.

There were several manufacturers I was hoping to see who didn't show up but overall, it was a good show.

no..i didnt get to see/hear the wilsons..i also missed the sound by singer showroom..i visited them 2 years ago and was very impressed. I also wanted to visit the outlaw room just for the freebies - they always give out nice ones..but unfortunately i missed that one too...

i also heard the aperions and got a free shirt.... :). They were good ...their designer wanted to follow the ls3/5a model...and i thought they sounded better than demos from what i heard from them a couple of years back. a fellow piped out that he was planning on buying some totems but he went aperion instead

I listened in on the zu druids and was at the sweet spot chair....a fellow there played some rickie lee jones (dat dere)...same song played in the joseph audio room..i thought the joseph's were better...

i wanted to join the amplifier/speaker workshops too..but had to pass since i did not have enough time..if i only i had the whole weekend

i spent the most time in the DCM room...the guy there was really nice and was down to earth...the dcms played really well whatever music was played...those time coherent speakers sound really swell...but i thought they were butt ugly though...
