Just looking for some experiences and some opinions.

What headphones do you guys consider the best? Well not the best I guess but more the best value for your money. Senheisser, Sony, Grado?

I've been having trouble finding what's out there, but what are the best headphone amps?

I'm thinking of ditching the Klipsch Promedias I got for my computer and replacing them with a nice set of headphones and a headphone amp. The other thing I am curious about is the availability of software that plays with the audio signal (a DSP I guess) so that the headphones would create a soundstage and image instead of the the in your head sound you normally get?

The Sennheiser 570's are the best sounding phones I've ever heard, and as a project recording studio owner and musician I've heard a lot of them. They are also the most comfortable. Most Circuit City's have them at a listening station. They are not flat, however, there is a bit of a bass boost (but that's what the knobs are for).

Not sure if you caught this thread a while back: http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001237.html

I've been waiting on phone/DSP systems suitable for home theater as opposed to computers. But if you run a search at raging.com, google.com, or elsewhere, you'll come across various references to new hardware/software along these lines for computers. It's apparently the initial line of products for Dolby Headphones.

Many years ago I ran comparison tests with audio signals and music for about one dozen headphones. The Sennheisers easily came out on top. I've been using a pair for many years, with satisfaction, although the model no longer exists. I'm actually planning on getting a second pair for my computer/digital piano use, too. Suspect I'll find one of the lower-priced models perfectly adequate (considering the limitations of the audio source).

The Sennheisers 590 and 600 are good phones. Try it with the Creek Audio OBH headphone amp and you have the basis for a really good sounding headphone listening system.

If you are into home theater, wait for the new Dolby Surround phones. I heard a demo of this, and it was pretty amazing. True 5.1 from a stereo phone.
