I'm looking for a semi decent receiver for under 300 bucks that isn't more then 5 inches tall, I just got a new TV stand and the spaces inbetween is about 5 inches. So far the only semi thin receiver I can find is the Panasonic SA-XR57 which is about 4 inches tall. Are there any other good cheap ones out there? This is for a condo living room so it doesn't be the best receiver ever (for sake of my neighbors).

The Panasonic XR-55 and 57 is your best bet. Excellent receivers. The 57 adds HDMI and is a 7.1 receiver, the XR-55 is a 6.1 receiver. Other than that they are the same unit.

Then it's listed wrong in alot of places included panasonic.com, amazon.com, officedepot.com and alot of other places I've looked have it listed as a 6.1 receiver, my mistake.

yes some sloppy web mastering a Panasonic's end, and Amazon and other online retailers picked up that info. the images in the monster thread, as well as Panasonic's own downloadable manual show it as a 7.1

So the only difference between the 55 and the 57 is the HDMI slot and the price jumps 100 bucks?

there's automatic dual amp in 5.1 mode (as opposed to 2.0 only in xr55)

there's party mode in xr57


and i think you can get the XR57 for less than $300 nowadays
