I am preparing my HT for the screen...7 foot wide (84") and was wondering what height "must" I use to allow viewing of all widescreen formats?

I am using a CRT, a Barco 808 so I will have the option of using a smaller 4x3 image in the center of the screen for non-widescreen formatted material. Full screen 4x3 would be too big (for me) at 63" high anyway!

Basically i want to know the height for the multitude of formats...16/9, 235:1 etc.

ps: is it just me or was Schrek awfully tall for a widescreen?

Thanks

Scott

The most common size of DVD movies is 1.85, which actually translates to 1.78. The other common size is 2.35, which you can mask for on a 1.78 screen. The only other size you really need to worry about is 1.66, which is common to Disney movies and some older B+W's. If you watch a lot of these movies, you should consider a 1.66 screen height of 50-1/16", otherwise, it will be masked in the center of the screen like the 1.33 material. If not, go with the 1.78 ratio height of 47-3/16". Good luck.
