I have a buddy up in Belvidere, NJ that has a hdtv that doesnt have a set top box. He is planning on getting one very soon but he told me that hes a 60 mile drive from NYC but when I put his info into titantv it says there are no tv stations in his area. I find this hard to beleive if hes 60 miles from NYC. So the question is does anybody live near him and get hdtv signals? IF so what equipment do you have and how reliable is it?

BTW if you havent heard of the town its in NW New Jersey. I would givce you more info but being a Texas boy, cant really tell u much more than that.

I'd have to look at it on MapQuest, but 60 miles drive is usually less as the crow flies. 60 crow miles is a long haul for HD.

It doesn't help that NW Jersey is pretty mountainous. He could be 20 miles away from the transmitters and not get UHF reception if he's in a valley.

Belivdere is almost due west of NYC along Route 80......but it is very close to the Delaware River. Very hilly indeed. Unless your friend is right on a hilltop, his chances of catching an HD transmission from NYC will be low -- at best.

He may have a better shot at receiving signals from Allentown/Bethlehem, PA.

Good Luck

Ill get him to mapquest it for me... but I didnt think about the mountain, dunno if there are any in his way. He also said its 60 driving miles to NYC so I thought it would be actually less to the city straight line....

I looked up the potential stations, and generally these are the distances to them:

48 miles from Scranton, PA

55 miles from Philadelphia, PA

57 miles from New York, NY

Assuming there's no obstructions, like being in a valley or having a mountain/hill between him and the station, there should be a wide range of available, receivable signals he would have if he has a decent UHF antenna on a rotor.

Unfortunately, it's very mountainous around there. Unless he's near the top of a mountain he's likely to be in trouble.
