Help! AVR3806 or RX-V2600 for Axiom

910 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  s002wjh
Both the Denon AVR3806 and the Yamaha RX-V2600 have similar features and price. I am just finishing up my HT room and am ready to start buying components. I have already decided on the Axiom Epic 60-600 system and Epson Cinema 550 but I'm not sure which receiver would be best for these speakers. Has anyone here heard/have the Axioms with either one of these receivers? Or do you have a recommendation?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the insightful knowledge myself and many others have gained from this forum and I look forward to receiving some very helpful responses. Thank you!

I own the 3806 myself and if you were located in Europe I would say go ahead with it. But it has come to my understanding that the same receiver in the States is sold without the upscaling features which to me is quite important. The 3806 has better amplification and better auto room equalization. On the other hand the 2600 has the upscaling and both lack iLink I/O. Which one is better will depend on your specific needs, both are good choices and you can't go wrong with either one.

That's interesting...I was under the impression that my 3806 upscaled...so apparently it is just converting to HDMI and not upscaling?
I was going to ask about these two receivers too. :D Maybe we will get some good info on here about these units. I now the yam will upscale but one retailer used the phrase garbage in garbage out on the yam. He suggested the denon, which he sells of course.
The Denon 3806 has no upscaling from 480i to 720p or 1080i. The Yamaha 2600 does come with this upscaling. I have been looking at these two receivers along with the Marantz 8500. They are all very good receivers.
bethlehem, there is contradictory information regarding the 2600, as far as its upscaling capabilities are concerned.

On one side audioholics has awarded the 2600 a product of the year award http://www.audioholics.com/news/edit...ndouts2005.php , and on another side I have read user comments regarding upscaling which were not favorable at all. I would say matching your dealers comments.

Ask yourself the question, is upscaling that important on an amp?
the axiom is consider birght speaker, and yamaha is consider birght receiver. if you put these two together you might get really bright sound, which you might hate it or not. the denon is consider very neutral, if i were you ill get the denon. it is able to pass 1080p signal, and the sound is not bright as yamaha. or consider the denon 2807, which will come out around march. 2807 can pass 1080p, and has upscale in it.
