OK-- I have been patiently waiting for Digital Connection to get the HiPix HDTV cards back in stock-- Now they are past their “Anticipated In-Stock†date and they seem to not have any idea when these will arrive. ARRRGGGGHHH!!!!

Is there anywhere else I can acquire one of these for delivery (or pickup in the LA area) ASAP?

Thanks

So what is the deal with the HiPix? Are they really planning to make more or what?

Now that I have a PJ set up I can't stand watching NTSC video. I've been researching what I'll need to get OTA HD -- have the antenna all picked out, location planned, cable routing worked out, etc. But it's all for naught if I can't get an HD decoder card and Hipix sounds like the best.

Should I just settle for an AccessDTV card?

I wouldn't.

It looks like the MyHD card might be available next month. If anything I would give the Hipix gang until then to come up with new cards then get the MyHD. "Encrypting" OTA broadcasts is silly and the AccessDTV guys aren't going to get that until no one buys their cards.

Before I get flamed, I used to own an AccessDTV card and I tried everything I could think of to get those guys to wake up. I finally gave up.

Here is a short list of legal things you can't do with an AccessDTV card that you can do with ANY of the other ones:

1. Backup your data to Camcorder, D-VHS, etc.

2. Watch a recording while you are restoring from any of #1 or 4mm/DLT/etc.

3. Any sort of file management of your recordings. They all default to recording into

one directory. You have to manually seperate one recording from the next.

4. Do any type of editing. (commercial removal, etc).

If you want to watch live HDTV on your PC or you want a half assed HDTV tivo

knock-off (you can pause live TV, but you can't pause a recording while it's recording)

then you may find the AccessDTV useful. If you plan to do anything other than short term time-shifting I strongly suggest another card.

Blackwolf5710,

I called last week and I was told they would have more in by Monday. If you did, when did you call and talk to anyone at DC?

I called DC earlier this week, and I was told another 2 weeks. I'm begining to think HiPix doesn't want to sell their card anymore. I'm looking at more and more HDTV cards. I've been waiting for nearly a month, this is nuts.

I would also wait a week or two for the arrival of the MDP-100 HDTV card. There will be US distributor selected this month. My experience with the retail version of the card has been very favorable - I've posted an initial review in another thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...hreadid=120448

Some of the other testers will be posting their results to the forum in the next few days. A Few to them will be able to compare the MDP-100 card to the other offerings currently available. Is the card perfect? no. But it does offer a lot of features and very good stability (on my intel based system).

Status of HiPix:

I received confirmation from Telemann that the cards will arrive Wed/Thurs next week. I'm not sure how long it will take to process and get it down to us for shipping, but it will be within days of arriving in the US. There are currently extensive back-orders, therefore it may take a week or two to process everyone's order. We ask for your patience at this time as we will notify everyone by e-mail as to where things stand. Thank you again for your patience during this difficult time.

I wonder if all this talk about CP hasn't also had an effect on the supply chain. Telemann will make what it can sell, but also doesn't want to be sitting on too much stock if the CP hits the fan.

(No real facts to prove this, but just an idea behind the shortage)

Kei:

Thanks for the update. Is the new stock enough to fill all the orders and still have plenty left? Or will supplies be tight again after all the current orders are filled?

ricka and DArthur:

thanks for the input. I didn't realize the MDP-100 would actually be available soon.
