I have a Yamaha DVD-S2500, which I've had for several months now. I'm not a fan of it, and I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it would be so much trouble. Anyways, I'll be getting a new one in a month or two (hopefully with SDI) so it's fine for now.

But, for some reason I can't get it to give me the correct aspect ratio. I'm playing a 1.85:1 DVD right now (School of Rock) and I'm getting letterboxing. (This is on a 16:9 projector). I tried playing a 2.35:1 disc earlier and it filled the screen.

Obviously, I figured it just had the wrong aspect ratio setting, so I went and checked that, but it was set to 4:3 letterboxing. I switched it to 16:9, but then I had both pillarboxing! If I put it in 4:3 pan/scan, I get the right AR. My projector is set to 16:9.

Also, my projector says it's being fed 720p50, but I didn't think NTSC would use 50hz. The DVD player is set to NTSC.

Any ideas?
