I am looking to put together an HTPC with an M-Audio card. However, I know very little about audio systems. I know even less about amplifiers. My HTPC will do all the decoding so all I need is a nice amplifier without any decoding capabilities. Can anyone give me a recommendation?

Thanks!

I am planning to spend about $1,000 on a HTPC system. I think the HTPC will cost about $700. So that leaves about $300 for the amplifier. Perhaps I should increase my budget to about $1200 so I can have $500 for the amp..... But I think ~$500 is about the most I want to spend on an amp.

Soggie,

You can get a very good refurbished amp, the H/K Signature 2.1 rated 100w X 5, with the full two year warranty at harmanaudio (see specials) for under $700. Or, there is a used H/K PA5800 (80 X 5) for $350 at audiogon.com. These are both very good amps for the money.
