i need some help picking a projector i hope to buy a new projector early spring to replace my 62 inch rptv.i can hang the projector 12 feet away from the screen the room is really dark even in day time.i was hopping to get a projector i could put on a shelf my sofa will be under the projector so i need a quite projector.my budget is 2k or under how high do i need to hand the provector the wall i woulded to hang the projector is 8 feet.also going from a 1080i tv to a 720p projector will i be upgrading my picture?THANK YOU

If you are going to shelf mount, you are going to need an LCD with lens shift. LCDs are also a bit quieter as they have no spinning color wheel. The consensus on the board seems to be the Epson TW-700, but it is only available outside the US, but it has an international warranty so you can get it repaired in the US.


A few hundred less is the sanyo z5 which is very sharp but not as bright.


A little more is the Panasonic ax100 which is bright, but not quite as sharp.


The Sony HS60 has the best black level of all the projectors, but is a little dimmer than the rest.


720p will look better with fast action like sports or action movies. 1080i will look better with movies with fairly static images.


The main advantage is the huge increase in size, which will give you the wow factor you never had with a 62 inch rptv.
