Help! Confused on Which Upconvert DVD Player to Buy!

623 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  millerwill
I've read the guides posted, and while helpful, still leave me confused.

I'm willing to spend up to $300 on an upconverting DVD player.

I have a Panasonic PT-56DLX75 56" DLP and a Yamaha RX-V800 AV Receiver (4-5 years old).

I've heard good things about the Panasonic DVD-S97S and the Oppo DV971H.

Any recommendations for the equipment I have?

Oh yeah...and what's "macro-blocking"? In what situations would this occur?

Please use the search engine...advance search....title search only....dvd sd forum only. There are a ton of threads on this topic. The quickest way to find your answers is through the search engine since the most general topics have been discussed in great detail before. No need to rehash what has already been posted.

 Kingwell

There's a new 1080p upconvert player made by Kingwell that looks real promising,it's under $200 and has some impressive spec's, it is almost the same as a NeuNeo player for less.

I have been in contact with this company several times and there eager to make this a great player with future firmware updates.

Reviews of trhe NeuNeo stated poor deinterlacing. You get what you pay for, my friend.
Well Mr Bill, i have a Oppo coming Thursday and Kingwell sending me a test player so i'll see what looks better on my Panasonic Plasma and the notorious macroblock plasma problem.
There are other non-MB options, like Sony, which does a better job deinterlacing than NeuNeo.

Your price cut-off is right in the middle. There are several possible choices below it (the Oppo, Sony 97, Panasonic etc.). If you were willing to double your limit, then you could consider the Pioneer 59avi or Denon 2910 (not as good).
