HELP Denon 4806 owners. can it receive Dolby True HD via HDMI?

2095 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  chmilar
I was thinking about getting a 4806 (not CI) used and it has HDMI 1.1 but I read it somewhere this can not receive multi channel PCM. Is that possible? Shouldn't all HDMI 1.1 receivers be capable of receiving multi chann PCM? I have a PS3 as a blu ray player so I really would like to get Dolby true hd through 4806's HDMI cable. 4806 owners who uses PS3,, please let me know. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger.. thanks!!

Yes, the 4306 can receive "Multi Channel PCM". The current firmware supports it. Older firmware must be upgraded, but it is easy to do (requires a Windows XP computer to load the firmware).

I am using a PS3 to play Blu-ray movies through the 4306, and I am getting Multi Channel PCM.
thanks but I was asking about AVR 4806 without CI upgrade? do you have info. on that model?

Any of Denon's last generation HDMI 1.1 offerings are capable of receiving MPCM over HDMI. I have a PS3 and a 3806, and I was just watching 300 on BD today, listening to the decoded TrueHD soundtrack sent over HDMI as 5.1 PCM to the receiver.

Even without the CI upgrade the 4806 is a very good piece of equipment and a great deal.

Oops! You are right. I didn't read the model carefully enough (it gets confusing with 4306, 4308, and 4806 as model numbers!).

I don't know the answer for the 4806. Sorry!
