Ok, this is a real HTPC 101 question here so I'm hoping for a quick answer:

I have a media PC I use for MiniDV and burning DVDRs and such.....

Only recently have I hooked up an SVIDEO connection from my cable box into the capture card in this thing...but the audio perplexed me. While there is a SPDIF output on the cable box, my motherboard does not have a SPDIF IN.

I'm happy with just 5.1 sound, but right now.....its analog mono. As there is only 1 minijack "Line In".

In order to get a true stereo sound, do I need to buy one of those Dual-RCA to 1 minijack converters from radioshack?

I'm primarily interested in grabbing music videos off VH1 Classics and keeping the stereo sound. Right now its a mono sound thats getting saved off as "Stereo"....and while its a stereo sound, it still SOUNDS mono on playback.

You know...sound seems less dynamic......mostly because, well, it is...its just mono being split....not the same as true stereo.

Is that all I need to do??

Many Thanks
