Help in Purchase Decision XA2 or A2

858 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  tundrSQ
Hi,

I have a Yamaha receiver with 5.1 analog but not HDMI. I presently have a 1080i capable Rear Proj CRT TV.

What would be the sound differences if hook it up via the digital or optical versus the 5.1 analog?

Eventually probaly get a 1080p TV but not now and eventually a HDMI receiver but down the road.

Should I get the XA2 or the A2? Input please?

With your setup at present I would go with the A2, BUT if your planning on upgrading the components you mentioned inside of a year I would go with the XA2. A year from now we will be asking the same question between the XA2 & the XA3 ! Never ending Variables and budgets wrecking our brains !!!

Unless your a real audiophile stickler about audio the spdif route with digital coax or optical toslink will sound plenty good !

what kind of speakers do you have?
A2 would be a nice fit.
Be ready for the future, get the XA2!

PMC DB1 Front L&R, PMC DB1m-C Center, generic surround.

My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V2500.

I agree with the above...if you can swing it go for the XA2. You will need to deal with the MB issues, but i think over all you will be happier knowing you bought the best. But if you do choose the A2 you will have a much easier time dialing in the sound. What are you using for a subwoofer?

MB issues? Can you explain?

Subwoofer is an older powered Sony that I did not upgrade with my new speakers yet.

sorry...BM...not MB...bass management issues currently prevent the XA2 from playing nice with small speakers such as yours. But you can always use the optical or coaxial s/pdif outputs unttill this is fixed by toshiba. there is a giant thread about this here.
