Add w w w to the start of the links. Apparently I can't paste links until I've made 5 posts, because of spammers. I'm not spamming, don't worry.

Ok so I work at radio shack (shut up!) and I have a problem. I'm in charge of the home entertainment section (DVD players, TVs, VCRs, etc.). We HAVE to have all DVD players working on all TVs at all times. Now, you'd think that hooking about 12 different models up to 4 TVs would be a hassle, but I managed to do it like so: geocities.com/g_n_morrison/whatamess.jpg

As you can guess, all those wires and switches create a HUGE mess, as well, alot of picture interference.

What I'd like to do, is make one big box that has about 16 inputs and about 8 outputs, which switches on it, and a built in distribution amplifier. So it would look something like this: geocities.com/g_n_morrison/niceandclean.jpg

It's going to be too complicated to make it with a series of push button switches that when one is pushed, the other turns off. So I figure I'm just going to go with rocker switches, and only turn one on at a time. I'm going to use a lighted one.

Are there any hobbyists out there who might know how to rig up something like this? Also, I don't know what the hell I'm going to use for an amplifier. I'll probably end up just taking apart a regular distribution amplifier.

It's going to be difficult, I know, but I think it's a pretty good idea, and it'll make things alot easier, and everything will look alot nicer... so, can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Rule 1:

Never build what you can buy. :)

Rule 2:

It's cheaper to buy stuff like this on Ebay than to build it yourself anyway.

Look on Ebay for something like the current "Circuit City Audio Video Switcher" [I have no connection to this auction] One [or two cascaded] of those with any old distribution amp will do what you want and will be way higher picture quality and lower cost and hassle than building it yourself.

I understand the appeal of DIY, but you really want to buy this stuff used. If you didn't like the interference from the cascaded cheap switches, you'll really hate the interference from your own home-brew design.

You may have to stick a label over the existing label to use it in your store though... :)
