I have just bought a Hauppauge WinTV-Go PCI-card which I have installed today. I used the recommended WDM-drivers from Hauppauge's website, since I'm running Windows XP. Note that I have tried this SAME thing in Windows 2000, so the problem is NOT XP-related.

The problem is that when I use D-scaler the picture looks terrible! I have tried other programs as well, and the common problem is that as soon as I activate "deinterlacing" the picture looks like this:

The distortion that you can see moves slowly over the screen, sometimes disappears, but then reappears.

This does not appear to have anything to do with a weak signal or anything like that. So I feel it must be a setting somewhere in D-scaler that can fix this problem...

PLEASE can someone who's really good with D-scaler help me with this??? I would appriciate it alot!

You can e-mail me on: [email protected]

AMD Duron 600Mhz

VIA Chipset

nVidia GeForce 2MX

320mb SDRAM

I don't recognize that particular effect. But there are a number of things you could also try.

1) Hitting the D and Shift-D keys will change the BDelay value, which probably should be somewhere between 80-110. This gives all kinds of interesting effects.

2) Explore the possibility of strong interference from somewhere, especially if you are using the tuner (you didn't say). If the tuner then pay special attention to the video input format and source.

3) If it's the tuner then instead try video input from a VCR, DVD, or other source. Still the same problem?

4) Some video cards have a setting on the driver or DirectX that says whether to 'wait for refresh'. Some serious tearing can occur depending upon this setting and your card.

Good luck,

1) I tried that, it did not resolve the problem...

2) I moved the PCI-card to another slot in the computer, where it's one slot away from all the other cards, no improvement...

3) I connected my DVD to the composite-in, same problem...

4) Hmm, did not find that setting...

Any other ideas?

I just installed the VIA 4-1 drivers (latest), no differense...

But HERE'S something interesting:

When I start Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7.0 and start a screen-capture (shift+C), then presses the right mouse button to activate the capture (the cursor turns in to a cross), THEN the picture in D-scaler looks PERFECT!! But as soon as I quit the picture-capture function i Paint Shop, the picture goes back to the miserable quality!

Can someone explain how this can be??? I would be SOOO grateful!!

Esben >> Hmm, I can't try with another graphics adapter... Isn't there any way to disable overlay in d-scaler?? If I select "Advanced/Overlay/Stop" the screen gets black... Is there any work-around that could help me with this??

That is all very strange. Maybe updated video drivers might help.

There is also a line in the DScaler.ini file:

WaitForVerticalBlank=0

You might try setting that to 1.

Hmm, thanks but that did not help either... :(

I have tried many different driver versions... I have tried both Windows 2000 and XP...

What exactly does Paint Shop do when I start a screen grab?? Because if I could do the same thing without Paint Shop, that would be a good workaround...

This is just a huge mystery to me... If anyone can solve this, I would be impressed!

No, there is no way to disable overlay in DScaler.

Try going to your video adaptor settings (On your desktop, right-click and then choose properties, settings-advanced).

Choose "Performance". What is the level at which it is set?

Then choose "GeForce2 MX", "Additional Settings", "Open GL Settings". What is the "Vertical Sync" set to?

Who's saying that?

And please keep all this to one thread!

I do not have any ideas from the information given, however. Have you tried reverting to an earlier Detonator driver set?

Edit: I could have sworn I've seen that problem before, but I can't remember any good search terms for the thread...

Well, if it in fact is impossible to run my TV-card on a VIA chipset, I think it would be documented somewhere. I mean: it's not a uniqe combination...

Back to the issue of the screen-capture in Paint Shop... Exactly what happens when starting a screen grab? Is the overlay disabled when doing that? Is that why it suddenly works?? In that case there should be a small tool that can do this...?

Maybe it can be solved with a new graphics adapter, but I'm not ready to buy a new one just for this...

Maybe I should give out a price to the one who solves this problem?! ;)
