I have an Infocus 340B. I project a 120" diagonal when in 4x3 from about 15 feet and am happy with its picture (2 yrs ago it was one of the best SVGA pictures in its price class). What I am not happy about is the fan noise and the unacceptable lamp life of anywhere between 280hrs and 550hrs. I've popped 4 lamps in under 2 yrs with the latest having lasted 280hrs. I use the projector for DVD viewing and some DirecTV through s-video and HDTV through the VGA connector.
Therefore, I am looking for a projector, preferably under $2000 (will go to $2500 if there is a compelling reason) that is OK for my size screen, viewing distance is about 13 feet, around 5 degrees off center. Also looking for lower fan noise and long lamp life. Again, I am happy with the picture quality of the 340B, I don't want to go backwards in picture quality (if at all) but would exchange some of that for lamp life and fan noise if I have to.
I do not notice the rainbow effect on the 340B though my wife says she does sometimes. The Infocus 340B is a DLP projector, 1300 lumens, SVGA, 400:1 contrast, 37db fan, bad lamp longevity.
Of the 3 "recommended" Panasonic PT-L300, Sanyo Z1 and Infocus X1, which fits the bill the best? Anything else?
Thanks.
