Ok, I moved into my house 3 years ago. I have a family room that I am not quite sure what to do with it.

I am open to any ideas but the room must be a room that can be used for daily use and not converted to a 100% home theater. (multi-use)

I have attached the floor plan and photos of the room from the entry and various angles in the room.

Thanks in advance for any ideas that you may have. I am not worried about brands/equipment specifics yet as I need to plan on what is needed.

Have a great day!

Kevin

You could easily put 7.1 surround sound, a projector and an electric screen in there, for a home theater by night, living room by day type set up. I've done it myself!
Thanks for the feedback. I have considered that and would like to but ideas of where and how you might do it would be helpful.

I have thought about putting it on the side where the table and buffet is now but it is pretty narrow and the projector would hang right in the entry and would be the first thing you see from anywhere in the house looking into the room.

If you have some ideas please let me know. feel free to draw on my floorplan and post it. I love ideas from those on the outside.
Crazy thought - What about dropping the screen over the windows to the outside (the wall right of the current TV position)? Your couch could stay for seating along the right wall of the "Theater Setup". You could slide the recliner into theater viewing position. Aside from the center channel, all speakers could be double wired for using when faced to the TV or to the projection screen (since the orientation would be different).

The reason I think this would be better than dropping it over the current TV position is the screen would be probably 2+ feet out from the wall to clear the entertainment center...making your seating that much closer and keeping you from getting a much bigger picture.

That might work, but the projector would be mounted about in line with the entry stairs coming into the room. Another idea would be to lose the entertainment center / TV and either mount the drop down screen where it is now with the projector near the opposite wall, or do the exact reverse. Get a low audio / video equipment cabinet for the AVR / DVD player / cable box.
These are great ideas and getting my juices flowing. I even had thought about having a lift for the projector since it would most likely hang in front of the entryway as the floor joists run the direction of say the couch to the current TV position. This would probably give me room. My only concern is trying to fix that should I sell the house as the texture would never match.

A good drywaller can patch it for not too much money - I should know, I framed, drywalled and painted for years.

That said, most people won't notice the projector I'll bet. A lift could be overkill!!
