I have been racking my brain on the chepeast solution for what I want...

A standalone media player that will play:

Divx/xviD

HD video files (MPG/AVI/TS/WMVHD)

VCD/SVCD

DVD (vob or ISO format)

I have looked at the media center PC option, but seems a bit too much and more than I need. I have also looked the media servers, but was wanting to know if there is a cheaper option.

I DO have a xbox 360, and thought about streaming the media to it, but would that not require xp mce on my home computer?

As far as data storage, I can store it on my pc and stream to the media player via ethernet, if that turns out being the cheapest.

So what is my best and chepeast option for playing these formats for display on my HDTV?

I have a Buffalo Linktheater. It's not as good as my Tvixs, but it's not bad and is pretty cheap. Note you need an external drive for it, but it does have built in wireless for streaming from PC. Oh, and it's pretty cheap with a built in DVD player (can put Dvix files on that instead of a drive).

Cheers
