Help me find a receiver

I have another question regarding a home theater I will be setting up. Looking at one of the Denon receivers - either the avrs950h, avrx2500h or the avrx3500h. I seem to be finding out that all 3 run pretty hot. I will have about 5 inches on either side, about 4 - 5 inches behind it and 3 inches of space on top. Open in front. Will the receiver overheat??? And no, I don't have stock in Denon and am open minded.:)

I should have added, if you are recommending an alternative receiver, that it is a relatively large room with thick carpeting and we listen mostly to movies and tv programs. Not much music in that room.

It would be better to have an open back as well. Consider purchasing an AC Infinity Aircomm T10 or S10 which will sit on top of the receiver and exhaust the warm air to the front opening.

As long as it can vent adequately, you'll be okay. Adding a sub(s) and crossing over at 80hz + will also be a big load off the AVR if you plan on running at full (7.1) capacity.
I’ve got a similar set up with no overheating. Still, an auxiliary fan couldn’t hurt. Cheers, RP

Actually...………. 5.1

The more open space it has, the better. Keep in mind that the more channels you add, the more capacity per channel will diminish. If you listen at normal levels and have reasonably efficient speakers , you have nothing to worry about.

That Infinity Aircomm t10 is only 1.5" high so that would be perfect. Thank you!

Which receiver???

This forum has been a huge help so far in my quest to redo our home theater system. I now have another question. Which receiver? My 3 choices are all Denon - avrs950h or avrx2600h or the avrx3500h. I will probably be getting Ascend Sierra1 left and right front speakers and either a Sierra1 center or a cmt340 center. Not sure about the 2 rear surrounds - either keep a couple of Klipsch that I have for the rear surrounds or do Ascend and have all Ascend speakers. Important to note that we don't often listen to music in that room - it is primarily for movies and tv programs. CLEAR dialogue is of the utmost importance to my wife and I.
The Denon X3500H is going to give you the best room correction with the upgraded XT32 Audyssey. You will probably be seeing deals on it too in the next few months.
x3500 would be the way to go. The xt3200, ability to play digital sources in Zone 2, full set of preamp outputs and multiple HDMI outs would make it the clear winner IMHO.

Plus it is on clearance as a 2018 model so you can get good deals.

Another vote for the X3500H. Full pre-outs, audyssey XT32, dual sub eq, plus features already mentioned.
Review post 1 of each of the 2019 Denon AVR Owner's thread (S950H, X2600H) and the 2018 Denon AVR Owner's thread (X3500H).

Been there done that. That is why I started this thread. I can go to a number of web sites and get a listing of features and a comparison. Not sure what a lot of it means to me though since I am not a "audiophile". Many features I will probably not be using. What I am looking for is clear dialogue and good sound quality for what I will be using the room for. Thanks anyway.
I've merged your two speaker threads and your two receiver threads into one "help me find" thread for each category. All future questions about your speaker search or receiver search should go in those two threads vs starting a separate thread each time.

Although I am not sure how the title of the thread got changed because the title "Help me find a receiver to replace my Denon" is not true.

I thought your original receiver was a denon....okay....dropped the denon.

Thank you. :)

Does the avrx3500h have enough power? It is rated at 105w but the Ascend Sierra 1 specs say a minimum is needed of 45 each and the CMT340SE center wants a minimum of 35. So...….45 + 45 + 35 = 125.

You misunderstand the spec. The 3500 is rated at 105 W/channel, each, into 2 channels at 8 ohms. Denon doesn't list the power per channel with all 7 channels fully driven. It'll be a lot less, maybe 60W. (The maximum power draw of the AVR is spec'd at 600W.)

Most recent AVRs aren't designed to offer full power through all channels simultaneously. The rationale is that for home theater use, you never drive all channels at max at the same time.

I'd expect that the 3500 would have enough power, although the Sierra 1 isn't spec'd as a highly efficient speaker.

You are going to have more than enough power with the Denon. And at the very least, if you find yourself wanting for more power, it has the pre-outs to add external amplification.
