Alright, after some extensive research, I still can't make up my mind. I'm looking for an under $500 sub (spending less would be preferable). I've narrowed it down to the following. Please help me decide which is the best value in terms of performance for the price. My room dimensions are about 14 x 16 and will use it for a 50/50 movies/music split. If you have a recommendation you feel is a better value than any of the below, feel free to share as well. Thanks!

Epik Legend: $350 shipped right now, currently out of stock, but I'm leaning towards this but have heard of amp problems: https://store.epiksubwoofers.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=L-171

HSU VTF-1 MK2: $470 shipped: http://www.hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-1mk2.html

SVS PB-1000: $500 shipped: http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/ported-box/PB-1000#.UvlfTD2wKy9

PA-150 $500 shipped: http://www.amazon.com/Premier-PA-150-Acoustic/dp/B004436EEU

I agree with the two posts above me, SVS - no doubt.

haha, seems like the response is overwhelming. Thanks! Is the SVS $150 better than the Epik though? I'm trying to determine value instead of pure performance as well (definitely leaning towards the PB 1000 at this point though)

IMO, yes it is $150 better.

This Reaction dual 12" looks like it might be a very good value. As for the Epik, they are shutting their doors, and the Legend does not have a great reputation for reliability, I would skip that one.

Seems impressive, but I can't find much in the way of reviews. Know of anyone with experience with it?

Id go with a trusted company. Also have you read the SVS Bill of rights?

If not please do so. no other company has yet to match that.

Give a new company a chance. If the Reaction drivers are any good that may be a hell of a sub for 500, and it could very well clobber a PB1000. The SVS Bill of rights isn't anything special at all, it's mostly just standard stuff all of these companies offer.

Not necessarily as few will pay the shipping to return a sub and not everyone includes a 5-year warranty on everything including the amp which is where you see the most failures.

Granted a five year amp warranty is better than the norm. As for return shipping, that will be factored in the cost of the sub, so it isn't free as they would like you to think.

19 Hz at 95 dB isn't very much . And if you drive the PB1000 louder than that, distortion skyrockets . The PB1000 can do 20 Hz, but not with authority. In my opinion, the upper frequency output which is sacrificed to achieve that extension isn't worth it.

I dunno shady.. I had a fun time looking at the driver, amp and enclosure and I think I have a little idea what the design suggests. The bottom line as you know is give a little there and take a little over here. Considering both designs and approaches are different, I wouldn’t look at things as critically as you’re suggesting.
