I currently have a Proceed HPA-3 (for the fronts) and an AMP-5 (I'm only using the AMP-5 for my rear channels). I am looking to consolidate them both into one 5 channel amp. My primary listening is music. I am considering a used Lexicon LX-5. However, I've heard the Lexicon LX-5 shines better with movies. There have been other reports about harsh highs with that amp also. Is it a good choice? Am I better off with something else. Budget is $2500 for new or used.

Thanks!

Know that Lexicon has never designed & manufactured amps. Lexicon licensed the NX series from Bryston and the LX series from Crown. As the LX does have a Crown pro amp heritage, it does contain at least one cooling fan that some say can be audible. And, interestingly, the lower power, lower cost CX-7 measured better than the LX-7. Otherwise, some speak very highly of the LX series.

thank you AJ. Any suggestions for amps other than those licensed by Lexicon?

Oh, there are too many possibilities to list. And we just had a multichannel amp thread a few days ago. Check it out for more info.

But I can speak from experience. I was interested in a CX-5 but could not locate one. Additionally, I could not confirm that it does or does not incorporate a cooling fan. So, I decided upon an Anthem MCA 50 instead. Its measurements are similarly excellent.

I have looked and looked. Can you point me to the multi-channel amp thread? Much appreciated.
