Help me pick a sub - Athena AS-P-300, Dayton sub-120, or AS-P-4000, start new?Micra 6

So I need your help. I am going to be upgrading my 12 year old Technics receiver (Dolbly Pro Logic 4 channel, no digital inputs, no component video inputs) with a 5 year old Onkyo TX-DS787 (6.1, DTS, THX select, with component inputs and digital audio inputs). So I currently have a pair of Cerwin Vega RE-25s for my fronts, a JBL N-Center 1, and rears are Paradigm Titans. I know my center should match my fronts but it doesnt and I really dont have money to get new fronts... Anyways, here is my question. Does it make sense for me to get a sub even though my fronts have 10" woofers? And if it does make sense, which sub is better betweeen the AS-P300 and the Dayon? Those two I can afford, the AS-P4000 is about $70 more than the other two. So if the other two are crap than I will need to look into the AS-P4000. Or does it make more sense to get the Micra 6 and get rid of what I have? I am very confused what to do So please help me.

I mainly use it for movies and TV but sometimes music. The room is a small living room with a 57" cinema series HDTV. There is one opening in the room that goes to the hallway and kitchen. Room is about 16X10??? Thanks for the help guys.

If you're looking for excellent surround sound with a good base punch then the micra 6 system can't be beat for it's price, amazing little system, but it is little. If you listen at high voume levels or with music or expect house shakeing rumbles from the special effects the sub the small system won't be able to keep up.

I've personally tried the Dayton and was unimpressed. It was quite boomy and one noted however for JUST HT it would probably be ok, definatly a step up from HTIB subs.

I've got the AS-P400 which is the 10" version of the 300 and love it. Again the 300 is a smaller driver but it's very musical, not one noted or boomy and does about as well or better in the lower frequencies than anything you'll find in this price range, I'd recommend it over the Dayton.

I've also got the AS-P4000 and again it's a step up from the last two, excellend in the lower frequencies for the price and is very musical. Also check out the Bic H-100 in this price range which is a 12" driver and an even better value imo but both are excellent for the price, won't go wrong with eather of them.

So in short, depends on what your looking for the only thing I can recommend as a definate from my experience is take the Dayton off the list.

The Athena ASP 300 is a great sub. It's a steal right now for $100 if still available. I only sold it to step up to the Sunfire dominator, which is in a different league.
So The ASP300 is a good bet even though my fronts have 10" woofers? I hope it is because that is what I am leaning towards. I want something that makes a big impact while watching a movie. Thanks!
i would get a bic h100

from ebay

search for

"bic acouste h-100" (not a typo) , offer em $190, should be $219 after everythings said and done

i would have recommended the asp4000 if it was still $150 at amazon, but it isnt

that is good to know but I think the WAF makes that price out of my range.

If you're wanting something to make a BIG impact for HT I don't think you're going to be happy with the AS-P300.

Is it a great sub at an amazing price....yes. But still it's a smallish sub. It's very musical and will definatly do the job for HT but if you're looking for house shaking base to get you into the flick then I'd advise moving up to the Bic H-100, or even the Athena AS-P4000 would be better.

The ASP300 is a great sub for what it is and the best deal you're going to find under around $175 which is where the AS-P4000 starts then the Bic at around $200, just don't expect to much from it.
Then maybe I should hold off on a sub until I can get either the Bic or the ASP4000

are we talking WAF like the size of the BIC or just the price tag??

if the former, you got two cerwin vegas sitting as your fronts, the BIC sub wont be nothin :D
Just the price..My budget is severely limited... I was thinking of replacing all my current speakers with Athena Point 5 MKII and a sub. I think that would be my best bet seeing how mismatched my current set up is and I havent read anything good about my Cerwin Vegas except that they are great for playing loud music.

From the reviews I read, It seems that the majority of people think the BIC is the best budget Sub, the the ASP4000 and then it gets kind of muddy after that.
the SAWX700 is $190 at etronics (or if youre in new york its even cheaper), that would DEFINITELY have a lot of oomph for home theater..
