Hi everyone,


It's been a while since I posted - I've recently been peicing together a small (modest budget) 2 chan. system. So far I have adcom gfa-535 amp and adcom pre amp, project debut III tt (stock) and av123 525elt monitors and just purchased on oppo 981hd player to use as a cd player for now..


my questions is, can anyone recomend some good cd's to try out the oppo with? I am big jazz and classic rock fan - but most of my music collection is in vinyl. Also, since this player plays SACD's and DVD-A's, would I be better off getting a few of those instead (and does it make much of a difference with a 2 channel setup vs surround?)

Don't limit yourself to SACD/DVD-A and CD. I have the Oppo BDP-83 and it also decodes and plays HDCD. Check that out in you Oppo manual. I still occasionally run into those at Best Buy. I have a handful of those myself and they sound fantastic, mostly Joni Mitchell and Spirit in that format although many are available.

Yes, take advantage of HDCD's, SACD's and DVD-A's - even if only in stereo. One SACD I can recommend is a live Kinks album called 'One For The Road'

Take a close look at Classical pieces like Scheherazade (82876-66377-2), Mussorgsky (82876-61394-2), NIN With Teeth all on SACD

i'm thinking i might need a sub to really get my system going through ... blah
