Hi all,

I am assigning myself a new project. My mother owns a dance studio. In the dance studio they do a lot of dance choreography (not sure if that is spelled correctly but anyhow). This involves a lot of cutting of music etc. So this is the project

Build a component looking music server, tht will integrate nicely into the dance studios' stereo system. So I would welcome any and all suggestions.

I am especially interested in a nice looking case (black) that doesn't so much look like a computer case.

A sound card that will output great sound to the receiver????

Software that will greatly simplify the conversion from CD to all digital. 300-500 cd's. This is very important!!!

Anything else that you can think of that would be a must have for this setup.

For music editing I am going to be using "Polderbits", very easy music editing software. I will use winxp pro. Speed of processor and ram won't be such an issue, as something like this won't really need anything to extravagent.

I appreciate the response but I am really lookinhg to build a music server type of product not a HDTV high end recorder.

I would like to find a nice case etc. The most important items would case, sound card, and software to ease the conversion from cd to digital. I use dbpower amp now but am wondering if a software exists that would keep me from having constantly change the name of the converted track from "track1" to its real name.

Thanks to all that can help

This sounds like a fairly standard operation. Antec Sonata case, Chaintech AV-710 sound card, Windows Media Player 10 configured for lossless WMA. Insert CD and click "Rip". It will look up the cd metadata and even download the album cover.

I really like my Silverstone LC03 case as well. It looks very much like my Denon AV receiver and sitting in my AV rack you can't even tell it's a computer. It's also quite roomy and allows for a full-powered HTPC and not one of those slim weaklings. ;)

mnn1265,

I like that silverstone case. What power supply do you use and what heatsin/fan combo. I want to keep it as silent as possible yet cool. How many and what case fans do you use??

Martin

Cnaitech AV-710 sounds interesting, can you tell me more as to why you suggest this card?? How does a person configure win media 10 for lossless wma???

Thanks a lot for responding. I appreciate any and all suggestions

I'm using a Antec Solution Series SL450 450W Power Supply - but any high quality PS will do. I use a standard CPU heatsink/fan and the processor stays nice and cool - so does my 6800GT inside the LC03. I use the included fan as well as the optional fan (installs on the floor of the case). The case cools nicely with the components mentioned above as well as two HD's (150GB and a 250GB). The Antec PS has a nice fan that does a good job of keeping the PS from heating up the interior of the case. I never notice the soft hum and I don't feel any need to make it quieter - though if you're really demanding about noise levels you can always go with specialty fans.

I also use the Chaintech AV-710. You can read much about it in this forum but basically it has a toslink optical output, does 24bit sound, has good drivers and is only $25... you can't beat it for three times the price.

ok,

That looks like a pretty nice sound card. My question is going to relate to connecting it to the audio receiver. I'm not so sure how hitech the receiver is they use. It is a music only receiver. So right now I'm not positive on the inputs. I am hoping it has a optical in but if it is an older receiver with the typical left and right in, will this sound card work fine???

Thanks again for the response

I also see alot of people posting about "Soundstorm". Would this kind of audio be the correct application for my needs? It would be kind of nice to build this something of this nature:

athlon 1700+

256 or 512 ddr

mobo integrated video and maybe audio but this application the quality of sound is extremely important

win xp pro

probably us win media player

and an app known as "polderbits" to cut music with

what do u think

deciding on the amount of ram and processor, I'm still deciding on

Whatever you do don't encode them to WMA Lossless. There are way better formats than Microsoft Crap. Such as SHN, FLAC, and AAC Lossless. WMA Lossless just gets you locked into Microsoft platform, whereas the others are platform independent.
