i just bought this computer, gateway phenom x4 9100e quad core 1.8ghz, 4gigs ram, ATI Radeon HD 3200 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218038551741 and i figured it would play 1080p movies without problems but I guess I dont know that much about the processing power 1080p requires.

I installed k-lite codec pack 5.0 and also tried combined community codec pack (cccp)

windows media player classic will play the movie the best with only a few frames getting skipped, but if i try to go to later part of the movie, it basically freezes and starts eating up memory. it goes up to 1.8gigs before it stops

vlc player is much more choppy but i can jump to different parts of the movie and it wont freeze but its still very choppy. i tried to "Put the skip-filter for H264 to all" but it didnt help.

my older hp with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 2.0 GHz, 2 gigs ram, and an ATI Raedon HD 4350 played 1080p much better then the new comp using the same media players.

i could put the raedon 4350 in the new comp. it has 512mb memory vs the 3200 which has 256 shared. would this solve the problem? i love the new gateway bc it has a separate hdmi port on the back which goes right to my 46" samsung lcd. the computer even recognizes when switching to the tv and adjusts the audio to play on the tv. on my older comp with the raedon 4350, i had to enable/disable the audio drivers for sound to play on the tv. it was very annoying

any ideas?

If 32-bit, then use the 32-bit versions.

Oops, never mind. You can use 32-bit filters/players in either 32-bit or 64-bit OS. You only need 64-bit filters for Windows Media Center in x64.

wow it works much better. thanks a lot. but like before, if i skip to far ahead in the movie it freezes and starts to eat up memory

do you think putting in the GIGABYTE GV-R435OC-512I Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 card thats in my other computer would help?

Information on OS (32 or 64 bit), player/filter (32 or 64 bit), the file format (mkv, H.264, Dolby Digital etc.) will be helpful.

64 bit vista sp1, mpc 64bit (the links you provided) Video: WVC1 1920x1080 29.97fps 0Kbps, if that makes sense. this info was in the properties on mpc

i have a quite a few 1080p movies that are .wmv files

edit: all of these movies play fine at startup, but then they all freeze around 1:12 into the video using mpc. windows media player lets the movie go past 1:12 but i cant skip around

What about audio track? Use MediaInfo .

Try the 32-bit (= x86) MPC HomeCinema.
