Help me select my next Plasma set?

Currently still using a 42" LG 720p set from 2006, which is ok, but suffers from sparklies (diffusion?).

Would like to get something bigger, but want to make the right choice. Here are my requirements:

- Plasma only. 'nuff said.

- Around $1000 CAD (that's Canadian Dollars...)

- Don't care about 3D, smart features, audio, or remote

- We don't watch sports or iPhone commercials

- We do watch mostly network/broadcast television, and movies

This TV will be set up in a relatively bright room, keep in mind that we're currently using a 2006 lowish-end LG plasma, so we're somewhat used to the brightness & reflections that come with the territory. Though I see that many still talk about these factors, I can't imagine it's any worse than 8 years ago, and most likely somewhat better, even in low-end sets?

The TV will be connected to an HTPC and AVR for audio, so, aside from 1 HDMI and 1 composite (for STB testing/etc), inputs are also not an issue. Harmony remote means I don't really care about the stock remote.

BestBuy, 2001, and Walmart all have the Samsung 60" F5300 and LG 60" PN6500 for $1k CAD, 2001 also has the Panasonic 55" S60 for the same price, though it's not clear from their website whether this is a showroom model, which I'm not comfortable with.

So - reading until my eyes are sore has been driving me to the Panny, not sure whether the downgrade in size is worth it, also concerned about warranty/repairs/service/etc since they're EOL now. To be honest I usually try to avoid Samsung's products as a general rule but not unbreakable, and LG's been ok I guess but not fantastic.

Any opinions or advice?

I recommend spending a little more dough and buying the H5000 once its released. It comes with anti-reflective filter used by the F8500. If you want maximum PQ for little money, the Panasonic S60 will be much better. I don't know how it handles glare as I only had the S64 (which came with the same anti-reflective filter as the ST60) but even the S60 should be superior to the F5300/F5500 and the LG when it comes to glare.
Thanks KOF. Tax refund should be here within 2 weeks, and I don't want to wait after that, also don't want to spend more than $1k CAD. I expect that the H5000 will likely be more than that.

So I've been reading page after page about the S60 and I'm sold. Found a store (not in the same province) that has them in limited qties still, so I'm pretty sure I'll bite the bullet on it. Nervous about it being shipped so far, but I guess that's going to be the tradeoff...

I agree with your decision, pick one before they are completely sold out. I'm lucky where I live they still have the S60 and ST60 in stock but very limited quantities.
I see you're in Canada too. Do you know if your vendor does online sales, shipping to Ontario?
