I am a complete newbie when it comes to horns, pipes and TL-type of speakers and having downloaded and looked at both Hornresp and MKJ's MathCad worksheets, I'm convinced I am destined to remain one...

I would like some kind and generous help from someone smarter than I am to simulate either an ML TL enclosure (or indeed a TQWT if better suited to my requirements) for the Faital Pro 8HX200 coaxial driver.

I will use four of these as surrounds in my HT system. They need to play down to 70-80 Hz so I had imagined the "port" to be tuned to the Fs of 76 Hz. I will be using digital active xover & EQ.

The "unusual" aspect relates to my strict requirements on the dimensions of the MLTL enclosures. These will be mounted directly against the sidewalls, like columns streching from floor to ceiling. I would like the internal depth to be no more than that of the driver itself (i.e. the compression driver almost touching the backwall), so let's say maximum 4.5 inches. Similarly, I would like the internal width of the enclosure to be not much more than than the width of the driver itself, say maximum 7.5 inches.

That leaves the height as the only dimension to play around with, up to say a maximum of 70 inches.

Is this at all doable...????

TLs work best with high Qts drivers, 0.5 or more. At 0.3 this driver is not a good TL candidate and would work best in a ported reflex.

Thanks, Bill.

I thought a Qts of between 0.30 and 0.40 worked alright for MLTL and even lower Qts in a TQWT...?
TLs work best with drivers that also work well in sealed alignments.

OK, thanks again.

What about a TQWT then...?
If you're going to use that driver I'd put it in a vented box.
