Help me understand my Green levels

Hello. I am a COMPLETE newbie to calibrating, let me say that up front!


I have had my Toshiba REGZA 42HL167 for a little over a week.


I've been reading all that I can about calibration. Following along with Bill Blackwell's "The Guide to Basic Display Calibration for New Users," I was able to set my RGB levels fairly evenly from 20% IRE on up.


Once I got my gray levels set, I ran the primaries and secondaries to see how everything fell out on the CIE chart. Red and Blue are close, but Green is completely out to lunch.


I am using HCFR and a Spyder2 to make the measurements. I am using HCFR on my laptop to generate the colors I am measuring. (DVI->HDMI) I also used the GetGray DVD on my DVD player a couple of times over Component. Green was similarly out to lunch on that input as well.


As you can imagine, the TV is watchable, but lots of things are taking on a green hue.


What I'm asking is:


Is there some connection between RGB levels and the CIE chart that I'm missing?


Is there something wrong with my TV?


Do I need to provide more data for you to answer either of these questions?


I have included the HCFR file for all to look at.

No. These are two independent measures of color performance. You can have an accurate gray scale but an inaccurate color gamut. Oversaturated green is very common for digital displays. Some displays allow for adjustment of this. The vast majority don't.

Haha! Thanks Tom for your response. (also thanks to the Soylent Green responses! :^)


My set, in addition to the service menu settings for cut and drive on the primaries, has HSB controls for primaries and secondaries in the user menu.


However, messing with these controls before, I was unable to get my green very close to the reference point.


Are there other service menu controls that I can use to get my greens closer to the reference point, so that I can fine tune it with the user controls?


I'll keep reading. Any input is appreciated.

How much were you able to move the green primary around with green HSB controls? Your current deltaE=73, were you able to reduce that at all?
