I have just bought a 3M LCD 1200 lm, XGA, 400:1 contrast projector, have briefly tested and colour and brightness seem quite good. I am debating about what material and colour to build the screen from. I have in mind using Melamine which is mat white in colour and has a bit of a orange peel effect on it, would this help the image? would a gloss white be better? I would love the image to be as vibrant as possibe, some feedback would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Matt.

Most here would suggest a gray screen to help with the black level, since you have a PJ without much contrast.

Gloss white will not be better (will prob. reflect too much - search "hotspot").

Try getting a flat gray melamine or some blackout fabric coated over a piece of plywood
