I have had my Lexicon MC-8 for a while now, and I have got to say it is one of the best pre-amps I have evered owned! Now it might be getting close to an upgrade time for me.

Last time I almost sold my MC-8 but backed up becuase non of the higher end pre-amps in my opinion did HDMI well. I am hoping things have improved since then. I am hoping someone more current with todays pre-amps can point me in the correct direction. I am looking for something in at least the same caliber as my Lexicon MC-8 that has multiple HDMI inputs and 7.1 audio that can handle all of the current codecs. It will be connected to Bryston amps.

Thanks

Is quality 2 CH analog SQ also important as well? The new Arcam AV888 looks to be a very interesting prepro as well but the cost is over your listed budget.

Mostly just 7.1 audio for movie viewing, and I wish to keep using my own amps instead of built in amps.

The upcoming Denon AVP-CIX may be your cup of tea plus some spare change from your budget.

Thanks to MagnoliaPro2 for the picture.

Since their receivers and other processor work fine I would not worry about it. I would not bother with the arcam AV888 since it lacks many basic features and has poor room correction.

You sound like you speak from experience
. What are the basic functions the AV888 or the AVR600 lack? Have you heard the AV888 or the AVR600 and have you had hands on experience with either? If you have not how would know if the room correction is poor or there is a lack of features.

Ozzie,

You could check out the 886 from shoponkyo which has great prices on refurbed units. Many here that have ordered the 886 from shoponkyo including myself have received brand new units in sealed boxes. They have a 30 day return policy if you are not happy for whatever reason. It could give you a baseline to start with but maybe not on a par with the Lexicon inregard to overall SQ though.

To get the sale price just join Club Onkyo.

Denon & Onkyo seem to float to the top of the list, I am going to see of the local dealers have any I can demo. I also got a couple emails telling me the AV888 being overpriced, lacking features it should have and HDMI problems, but none are very specific?

I will take a closer look at these models. Thanks for all the replies.
